Goal Setting... Again
Welcome back Everyone!
We've had a little time off for writing and I know you're all busy with you projects for My Jim, so this is an easy blog this week that will hopefully get you on track to sail through the end of the school year. By Friday, I want each of you to make a "To-Do List" that is a bit more meaningful than the one pictured above. Please set three realistic, achievable goals for yourself for the second semester. Along with each goal, I'd like you to provide at least two concrete steps you will take to achieve that goal. I don't have a specific word count, what I'm looking for here is for your goals to be meaningful, well-written, and achievable. For your final paragraph, please write how you will evaluate your success at the end of the school year. I will do this assignment so you have a basic template to follow.
For next week's response to a peer, provide feedback to a peer about their plan. A response like, "Great goals, Ms. Mott, I hope you can do it!" just won't cut it. You have to either comment on the methods your peer has chosen to achieve their goal, the goal itself, maybe provide some other steps they can take to achieve it. Make it meaningful. Many of you are not happy with your first semester grades in English; a lot of that has to do with skipping, or submitting poorly written blogs. I know you can all do a better job.
Good Luck! Ms. Mott

Ms. Mott’s Second Semester Goals
ReplyDelete1. Be more organized in my personal and professional lives.
a. Clear my desk of all papers at the end of each day to ensure I know where everything is and can start each day “clean”.
b. Keep up with grading so the only thing going home on Fridays will be blogs that need to be graded. Return graded papers promptly.
2. Find time to relax.
a. Achieve goal number one successfully and I will spend less time trying to get caught up on things that should have been taken care of and spend less time looking for papers that are lost in the mess on my desks.
b. Keep going to the gym at least twice a week to get much needed time to clear my brain and work my body. Follow up with a half hour each time in the sauna!
3. Keep my students accountable and guide them to take more responsibility for their own success.
a. Keep assignments current on the board and in my plans so students will know what they need to get done, along with a timeline for completion. Spend less time reminding students of what they need to get finished and encourage them to be more proactive and set their own goals.
b. Keep Tuesday and Thursday from 3-4:15 available for students to come in and make up work, get extra help, and finish projects.
To assess my success with each of these goals, I plan to post the goals by my desk to refer to them regularly. I have been jotting down my workouts on my calendar at home and I will keep doing that. I will reassess my goals at the end of each month to ensure I am on track. I don’t think I need to have a checklist for goals, but if I do, I will develop one and check it off each day as things are accomplished.
Ms. Mott
1) To work harder on getting good grades.
ReplyDeletea. Focus more in class and study.
b. Don’t slack with homework and turn everything in on time.
2) Get High Honor Roll
a. Working hard on keeping good grades.
b. Strive for better.
3) Enjoy school
a. Make classes more interesting
b. Don’t get so stressed out
The end of the five weeks would be a checkpoint for my goals, if I am not sticking to my goals then I know for the next five weeks I would have to step my game up. Trying to enjoy school is going to be hard because no one really likes to be here. To make things better I guess i'm just going to make the best out of things. At the end of the semester, achieving these goals will make me proud and realize that if I want something bad enough, then I could be successful.
-Haley Linkroum
1.Keep up on homework
ReplyDeletea.do my homework right after I eat something after school
b.don’t procrastinate
2.Make superior honor roll
a.study for tests/quizzes
b.do my homework thoroughly
3.Make time to relax/have free time
a.get homework done so I don’t have to worry about it
b.try to get my homework done on Fridays so I don’t have homework over the weekend so I can relax over the weekends
To evaluate my success at the end of the year, I plan to remind myself regularly about these goals and make sure that I accomplish them. I will make sure that I will look at these goals at the end of every month to see if I am accomplishing them in any way.

Second semester goals
ReplyDelete1. Get high honor roll the third and fourth quarter.
a. In order to accomplish this goal I will need to become much more serious and focused on my assignments, even if it’s just homework. I have good grades still but I feel that if I was to really devote some time and effort into my work I could really make a difference in my work.
b. I will also need to get more sleep considering I only get about 7 hours, being that once I get home from practice I like to eat, shower, relax, and... blow off my homework until the next day, which makes me stressed to get it done and turned in on time.
2. Become more organized in all aspects.
a. I’ve come to notice that I’m always scrambling for the right folder or trying to find a paper in my locker. I have also been forgetting pieces of clothing for P.E. If I am going to succeed in this goal I will need to take a little bit of time to first off, organize my locker and bookbag.
b. Further more, I will need to keep up on the organization. I have a habit of starting something a slowly drifting from doing what I started.
3. Stay positive.
a. I have a small issue with staying positive and optimistic. I really need to work on that. Not only might it bother everyone that notices how negative I can get but I bothers myself as well. If I get I bad grade on a test or I don’t play that great in a game I get down on myself too easily. I will try not to make facial expressions and/or change my body language if things do not go as planned.
b. I will also become more supportive towards other whether in sports or in during class.
By the end of the third quarter I will check up on all of these goals I have listed. It will be concidered my check point.
-Bridget Smith
This is really well written and positive, Bridget. You're off to a good start!
DeleteMs. Mott
Bridget your goals are great goals and
DeleteI know you can achieve them because your a very smart person. We both pretty much share the same goals but yours are well thought out compared to mine. Well I wish you luck!
1. Be more organized at school as well as at home.
ReplyDeletea. I need to organize my binders for my classes so that I will be able to find my notes and homework better. By doing this it will help to improve my grades.
b. I will clean my room so that I can find stuff easier which would help me to get ready for school in the mornings so I wouldn’t be late to school every day.
2. Go running more often.
a. I will start to run every day so that I can better my health and lower my cholesterol.
b. Running helps to lower my stress level and clear my mind. When I go running I feel so much better and always return in a better mood. I am going to prioritize my time better to make time for running.
3. Get better grades in school.
a. Doing my homework and handing it in on time will help me to get better grades in school and hope fully make honor roll again.
b. Getting better grades in school will also make my parents happier. I will try to focus more in class and limit my distractions at home to better my grades.
As a way to remind myself of the goals listed above, I am going to write them on an index card and post it on my mirror that I look at to get ready for school every day. My checkpoint will be the end of every month. AS an incentive to reassure that I am going to fulfill my goals I will treat myself to a small shopping trip after each checkpoint.
~Raven Pietrowski~
Wow Raven! I love your incentive idea! I thought thirty minutes in the sauna was good, I LOVE the idea of a small shopping trip. I am going to steal that one for myself too! Thanks!
DeleteMs. Mott
Raven,
DeleteYou did a great job on your blog this week. The goals that chosen are good goals and I think that you will be able to achieve them. You explained each goal thoroughly. It was nicely written and keep up the good work. Good luck achieving each goal.
~Rachel Grausgruber
P.S. I like the shopping trip as a reward after each checkpoint!!!
1.) Get a 550 series in bowling
ReplyDeletea.) Never give up
b.) Never stop practicing
2.) Get better grades
a.) Do my homework
b.) Ask for help when i need it.
3.)Get on high honor roll before
a.) Work harder.
b.)Get extra help.
A way to remember these goals i will tell my friends, because i know they will help me do it . As a checkpoint i will have a meeting or get together and talk about how I'm doing with it. To fulfilling my goal i will go out to dinner and a movie with my friends.
~Katrina Lester
Hi Katrina,
DeleteGrades will always be improved when you have double checked spelling and grammar. The pronoun "I" is capitalized, every single time. I'm a little concerned about your "concrete steps" that will make your goals achievable. For your first goal, it might be better to say: "a. Use positive self-talk when I bowl a bad game to motivate myself to do better. b. Practice with the team regularly, but also practice on my own at least __ times each week." (See that, I'm helping already and you didn't even need to ask. You CAN do this!)

ReplyDeleteHi Summer,
DeletePlease go back and read the assignment. You are missing vital parts of it and need to work on it a little more to obtain a good grade. Thanks.
Ms. Mott
1.)make honor atleast once before the end of the year.
ReplyDeletea.)ask teachers for more help in and out of school
b.)do all my homework and study
2.)Have my monte ss all restored
a.)work hard for money to put into it
b.)use elbow grease and boces to my advantage
3.)get higher boces grades
a.)work harder during shop time
b.)practice more on equipment
I am going to achieve these goals by never giving up on myself. If i put my mind to it hopefully i will be able to do all of the above.
Jonathan Hafele
Hi Jon,
DeleteI can't think of a single reason you can't achieve these goals. Please be sure to always capitalize the pronoun, "I", and the acronym for BOCES is all capital letters too. You have several sentences here that aren't capitalized, please fix those up too. Thanks.
Ms. Mott
Jon,
DeleteWe both share the goal to make honor roll at least once before school ends so hopefully we can both get it, and good methods for trying to make honor roll to. I hope you do get your Monte restored because then that thing would be mean and look it to, so good luck to you with that, hope you get the money to do it.
- Dan Koch
Jonny boy!!! I like your goals that you want to achieve. I believe you can make honor roll with just little hard work and dedication. You kinda have the same goal as me with the heavy equipment. I also would like to know how to run the heavy equipment very well. I think you can restore your Monte Carlo to full potential. You have the ambition in you to do it. I can't wait till it's finished and see a wicked nice car that has alot of power behind it. I can see it now brand new glossy black paint with the tires just a smokin and loud enough to wake a dead person come from the grave. You need help with the Monte I'll help i would like to be a part of that master piece of a car.
DeleteJon Lee
I like you're goals john we share in that department i would also like to fix my car up... i like that you want to make a difference in your grades it shows your trying and im sure your teachers will like that to.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteHi Jon,
DeleteThis is kind of the same reply I gave Jon H. Please capitalize each new sentence or bullet point and remember that BOCES is always capitalized because it is an acronym. You're missing the final paragraph; please get that finished up before 3 on Friday. Thanks.

Good goals, Pat! You did a good job on this one; you are just missing the final paragraph which asks you to describe how you are going to evaluate your goals. Please fix it up before 3 on Friday (re-read goal #1 B that you wrote!) Thanks!
DeleteMs. Mott
1)Get better grades.
ReplyDeletea.Read my notes over every single night.
b.Study for upcoming tests and quizzes and focusing harder.
2)Procrastinate less.
a.Do my homework right after school.
b.Don’t put things off, just do them right away when they are assigned.
3)Always be positive.
a.If my grades are bad, I don’t want to get all down on myself, I’m going to try and get those grades up.
b.If there’s other things bothering me I’m going to put it aside and focus on school by staying positive.
I picked these three goals because they are the most meaningful to me. They all have to do with me being successful in school and in the second semester. Sometimes I don’t always stay positive and I start to not care about things if I don’t know how to do them, but I am going to try my best to stay positive, not procrastinate and just always look ahead. I hope that fulfilling these goals won’t be too hard; with a little bit of work and focus, I am sure we can all fulfill our goals.
-Natalia Bielecki
Natalia you did a great job on your blog this week. I love the goals you have chosen and I think how you are going to achieve these are all great ideas as well. I think that you will be sucessful with them as long as you study, do your homework and don't put things off like you said. Nicely written, Keep up the good work and good luck.
Delete-Kaitlyn Wingerter
ReplyDelete1. Get better grades in school, my grades aren’t the greatest because I just don’t really try and I’m lazy.
A. Study for tests.
B. Pay attention in school and do all my homework.
2. Be more organized, my locker is a mess and I really need to get better organization skills and keep my room clean at home.
A. Keep all papers in my binders and throw away the garbage.
B. Clean my room a few times a week so that way it will stay clean.
3. Lose weight.
A. I will eat healthier because I eat a lot of junk food.
B. I will also exercise more because since field hockey has ended I haven’t really worked out.
How I will achieve these goals will be by making sure I stay motivated and look back at these goals a few times a month and hopefully by the end of they year I will have them accomplished. I don’t think these goals should be that hard to achieve as long as I do the things I have listed above.
-Kaitlyn Wingerter
Kaitlyn,
DeleteNice job on your blog this week! You picked some really good goals. I know that with hard work you can get good grades and with a little bit of determination you can be more organized. Although your goal to lose weight is a little bit silly because if you lost anymore weight we would have a hard time seeing you. Keep up the good work and you will achieve your goals.
-Natalia Bielecki
(1)I would love to have more money because driving to endicott two night outta the week and windsor two night out of the week gets to be pricey. (2)stop being lazy and dailys class (3) Train train train , and train some more EX. weight training and becoming lean witch altomately leads to becoming faster (4) last but should have been first do awesome at the N.U.C combine -Marcus Shaver
ReplyDeleteGreat job Marcus! If you continue to go to the weight room and push yourself you will easily meet your goals. I expect to see you on television playing football some day.
DeleteThere are many goals that I would like to achieve by the end of this semester. One of those goals include raising my overall G.P.A. This is because I really want to go somewhere in the sports field. Whether it is wrestling or football, I just want to go somewhere in sports. I will do this by attending school more often. My attendance has been poor but I am working on that! I will also do more of the work in and out of class, which will be a big help.
ReplyDeleteAnother goal that I would like to accomplish would be some weight loss. This is because if I were to lose about thirty pounds I would look shredded! It is also a health factor. I love eating healthy and being healthy. I am a very active person. I already started eating very healthy and drinking a lot of water. I will carry on with my current good eating habits.
One last goal that I want to achieve in these last two semesters is to become a high honor roll student in the fourth quarter. This would prove something to a few people, that I am not a bad kid and that I do have the dedication and wisdom need for a good student. I will admit it I am lazy when it comes to schooling that will change now! That is why I dropped BOCES so I can become a better student here and get all of my averages up.
1. Make superior Honor roll
ReplyDeletea. do all my homework at home and use study halls wisely
b. do not procrastinate
2. Make 1st team all-star for basketball

b. Focus on basketball outside of school and practice on the weekends.
3. Hangout with my friends more

b. instead of focusing only on sports hangout more and relax
The way I am going to remember these goals in by writing them down. This will help me when ever I see it succeed and try harder. Also just stay focused on the three goals I stated. My check point will be at the end of every month so I keep updated.
~Matt Mills
Matt, i agree with making all star i can relate to you through sports. I also agree with making goals and writting them down, it keeps you focused and remeber what motivates you, i beileve you did a good job -Marcus shaver
DeleteMatt, the goals that you have set are going to be tough to accomplish but i know you can do it. Your steps to achieving these golas are all very good. I think that you will have no problem accomplishing them. Writing them down is an awesome idea. I am going to do that for my goals. Good luck with meeting these goals.
Delete-Jason Lobdell
1. Make honor roll.
ReplyDeletea. Actually do my homework.
b. Study for tests.
2. Get my drivers license.
a. Practice driving more.
b. Bribe the guy who gives my test in case I do badly.
3. Watch The Hobbit.
a. Get the movie when it comes out.
b. Actually watch the movie.
To keep track of my success I will write down these goals and put them on my refrigerator and have to look at them every time I go into my fridge. When the school year is over I will no if I succeeded because I will have honor roll certificates, my drivers license, and the epic memories of The Hobbit. So hopefully I will accomplish these goals to make me feel better about myself.
- Dan Koch
Nice goals Dan, I don't know much about the hobbit but driving is an absolute need. I got my permit on my 16 birthday and got my license exactly 6 months from my birthday. It gives teens a lot more freedom. And we will accomplish honor roll together! Jonathan Hafele
DeleteDan, I think if you try to reach these goals by hard work and dedication. Also if you work on driving you can pass your drivers test.
Delete---Dan Babcock
I have many goals for myself currently. I have accomplished and set numerous goals throughout the years. Now I am setting a few goals for the end of the year. If I was to achieve these goals I will feel awesome about myself.
ReplyDeleteThe first goal that I am going to set is to get on high honor roll for the next two marking periods. I have worked hard to stay on honor roll at least. I want to now set my goals higher and challenge myself. I would take a few steps to accomplish this goal. My first step would be to take my work home to work on it. I do all my work in school and don’t ever take it home. If I was to take it home then I would get better grades therefore getting on high honor roll. My second step is to pay attention better in class. I am going to not talk as much and take notes from now on.
My second goal is to get a job. I have not had a job all during the winter because of wrestling. My first step is going to be to go out and apply to places. This will increase my chances of getting a job somewhere. My second step is going to be to work on my free time. When I have free time I don’t ever work, I just relax.
My third and final goal is to become healthier. I will take several steps to accomplish this. I am going to eat a healthier variety of food. This will be a huge step to becoming healthier. My second step is to lift. This will help me to be a more physically healthy person all around.
At the end of the year I am going to evaluate if I succeeded or not. If I made high honor roll then I accomplished it. If I am healthier then I accomplished that goal. If I have a job then I accomplished that goal.
-Jason Lobdell
1.) Get better at football

B.) Work with my brother on footwork and handwork.
2.) Get my drivers license.
A.) I need to practice parking.
B.) Need to make my appointment soon.
3.) Get a car
A.) Find a car or truck in price range.
B.) Get moneys so I can buy the car to truck.
I fell like if I can get my license then I can get a truck or car so I can have a job, and make money. Plus if I have a truck or car I can work on more football stuff like lifting, and working on my footwork.
--Dan Babcock
Dan all of these goals are great. I agree with all of them and I also believe you can achieve these goals. I believe if you complete all the goals you have set for football, you will be great and successful.

DeleteScott, I like these goals that you want to achieve. I hope you do get that ten point buck because I know that you can do it. I hope you do get all of your homework in on time because that is something that I want to do myself.
Kenny Cornwell
I haven’t really thought of any goals that I should achieve. But if I had to pick three I guess I’d say one would be to get my English and History grades up. I will achieve this by working harder and putting any more possible effort into those two classes. A second goal would be to get another job. As much as I enjoy the job I have now, unfortunately it doesn’t pay enough money. I will achieve goal number two by going out and reapplying to jobs once I turn eighteen. Goal number three would half to be improving who I am. I will achieve this by learning more of who I am and who I should be. ~Summer Murphy~
ReplyDelete1) I want to graduate high school (this year)
ReplyDeletea)do my homework
b)do all of my classwork
2) get a nice car
a)get a good job
b)work hard to get enough money to keep it
3)move to a place where it is nice
a) graduate with a way to get a good job
b) find a job wherever i wanna go
I will be successful with all of my goals no matter how long it takes me because if I really want something i will get it. It might not happen this year or even maybe not next year but it all will happen.
1.) Get out of this school
ReplyDeletea.) Complete and hand in work on time
b.) Control my hatred towards certain staff members.
2.) Become a registered nurse
a.) Pass my BOCES course and gain those certifications
b.) Graduate from a two-year college
3.) Get a job
a.) Fill out more than one application
b.) Actually be willing to work
Near the end of the school year I’ll evaluate these goals. I know I will not have achieved my goals of getting out of this school and becoming a registered nurse. I should be able to still achieve getting a job by the end of this year. As long as I stick to my plans to achieve these goals I should be able to achieve them all.
-Jen D.
I have many goals for the end of this school year, that will hopefully all be achievable. below are my three main goals for the final semester of my high school year.
ReplyDeletemy first goal is to be passing all of my classes with a seventy five average, absolute minimum. since i have chosen to graduate early there are a few ways that I can achieve this goal. i could stay after school when available and make sure that all of my work is done that is due the next day. also, i could try to be more motivated to actually come to school and sit through my classes.
my second goal for this semester is to get a car. i plan to move to Binghamton to attend Broome Community College in the fall so a car is vital to that. i also need a car because i'll be attending summer school but will be living out of the district so i'll need my own form of transportation. one way i can achieve this second goal is to find a job, save money, and not spend the money i have on stupid things. another way i can achieve this goal is with the help of my family who is fairly supporting of the entire situation
my final goal for this year is to help my dad as much as possible. recently some things took a turn for the worst, but now things are going to start getting better. i can do this by never giving up on my father and always have faith that he can get better and that he will get better. i can also help him by keeping him away from the people and things that subject him back to to his old ways. granted he is a grown man and can make his own decisions but i can try to be the better half of his conscience.
my goals are very achievable if i keep my mind going in the right direction and keep up in school. they are all very realistic goals that i know can be achieved.
Kaitlynn Michalski
Delete1) build 8 pounds of muscle by the end of the school year. Eat a lot and work out like an animal 2) be ranked in the top 1000 in the world at Call of Duty 3) graduate from school show up every day and do my work.
ReplyDeleteAll my goals will be met by this summer. My most challenging goal will be to gain 8 pounds of muscle. It’s the most challenging goal be cause it’s a physical goal and a mental goal.
Cole Griswold
1. I want to get better grades for all my classes. I want to have an 88 or above. I will do what I have to do and not wait until the last minute to turn my assignments in on time. I will be organized so I don’t lose my things so I can turn them in.
ReplyDelete2. I want to get honor roll this semester. I have gotten honor roll before. It’s not that hard if I just put my mind in gear. When I do my homework and turn it in on time I will get good grades for them because they were turned in on time so I won’t lose any points for it being late. If I get high grades on the papers then that will definitely help with my grade tremendously.
3. When I get out of school I want to go to college in Cobleskill in New York. My brother is a professor up there and that is where my brothers went, so I want to follow in their footsteps. I want to have the same job that they have. They both work for the DEC (Department of Environmental Conservation). My brother teaches wildlife and fisheries.
Kenny Cornwell
1.)Pass my CNA test for NYS.
ReplyDeletea.)Practice my skills for BOCES.
b.)Study for the written exam.
2.)Become "fit" for summer
a.) Workout, run.
b.) Eat healier, no more soda.
3.) Go to college and become successful
a.) Apply to colleges
b.) Go to college, and earn a degree in Nursing.
Most of my goals are for school, which requires me studying alot, and becoming more organized and responsible. My other goal requires me to make healthier choices for my life. My most challenging goal will be to have a healthier lifestyle, because i enjoy my junk food and I am a really lazy person.
1. Get on honor roll
ReplyDeleteA)To make myself happy
B)To make my family proud of me
2. Be organized
A)To turn in homework
B)To become less stressed
3. To pass my history and chemistry regents at the end of the year.
A)Be able to graduate in 2014
B)Make my family proud of me
Shania,
DeleteI think your goals are very realistic. They seem like things you do need to work on and can accomplish, especially because I helped you think of them! As long as you do all that's required to succeed I don't think you will have too big of a challenge to accomplish them. Good blog this week! -Bridget Smith
1.) Make High Honor Roll
ReplyDeletea.) Study
b.) Do the work
c.) Turn in work on time
d.) Pay attention in class
2.) Improve my Basketball skills
a.) Go hard at practice
b.) Work on it in my free time
c.) Continue to set goals for myself
3.) Make healthier choices
a.) Workout/lift
b.) Stay away from junk food
c.) No more soda
I will know if I achieved my goals by the end of the year if my report card says I made high honor roll, and if I start to get bigger, or can lift more than I did when I started. I will know if I improved basketball if my coach tells me I have, but you can never get perfect in any sport there is always a way to make your game better, so if I make my goals for basketball It will only make me ready to set more goals to reach.
Gary Fineout
1. Improve all of my grades
ReplyDelete~ I need to do all my homework. I should rush to get it all done in study halls, i should take the time to do it at home.

Shania,
ReplyDeleteGood job on your blog this week! I think it will be easy for you to obtain these goals, because when you but your mind to something, you usually acomplish it. Just be more confidient in yourself, and have alot of determination, as you always do, and you'll have no problem getting to where you want to be with your schoolwork. I hope this works out for you. Awesome Job!
