Extra Credit Blog Due by 3 PM Friday, June 7

Hi Gang,
This is your last blog of the year and is not required, it is merely a last opportunity for extra credit.  We started the year with a blog that required you to interpret a quote, agree or disagree with it, and explain your reasoning.  That is the basic format for a critical lens essay like the one you'll be doing on your final or your Regents exam.  This is great practice for that test.  There are a few more requirements for a critical lens, so I'm going to add a few more requirements to this one too.  This is what you need to do:

1st Paragraph - Restate the quote and name the author.  Explain what the quote means.  Tell us whether you agree or disagree with the quote.  Name two books and authors you can relate to the quote, and name a literary element (characterization, setting, theme, plot, etc.) that is seen in the books.

2nd Paragraph - Give more details about what the quote means.  Explain it more fully.  Write at least three sentences.

3rd Paragraph - Discuss the first book and why it fits with the quote.  Be sure to underline the title of the book and to name the author.  The author is NOT your friend, so refer to him or her by their last name.  What literary element in that book fits the quote or supports it?

4th Paragraph - Discuss the second book and why it fits with the quote.  Be sure to underline the title of the book and to name the author.  The author is NOT your friend, so refer to him or her by their last name.  What literary element in that book fits the quote or supports it?

Last Paragraph - Wrap it up.  You can insert personal narrative here; talk about ways the quote is meaningful to your life as well as in the two books.  You need at least three sentences here.  Be meaningful!

********* Use spell check and grammar check.  All of the rules that have applied all year apply here and, because it is extra credit and you've had a whole year with the same rules, you can be sure I am going to grade accordingly.  If you'd like help with your editing or formatting before Friday, see me.  I am not going to edit anything on Friday.

YOUR QUOTE IS:  Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated.

Good Luck!

Adventure!

I have been on many adventures in my lifetime. Some have been boring, but others were extravagant! Some have been involved with my friends and the other adventures that werent too great were spent with my family.

The adventure that I remember the most is my wrestling vacation to Virginia. We were told we are riding down in a bus, so I was pretty siked about that. Than a big sixteen passenger van pulls up and Mr. Daly says hop in. We were shocked that we had to drive seven hours down in a hippie van! The way down was very long and tiring. I remember when we got there we got assigned dorm rooms because it was on an all boys campus. I was put in a room with Dan Bacbcock and Jon Wingerter. We played many pranks on eachother and ordered Domino’s pizza every single night. The food there was amazing! We had an all you can eat buffet for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! It was great and I ended up gaining weight instead of losing it! So the part where we werent wrestling was very exciting.

The trip was all about wrestling. We had to wake up at seven every morning to eat breakfast and then start our first two hour session. We had three two hour sessions every day! I was going into my sophomore year that summer. I remember the heat! It was ridiculously hot in the gym we were in. They had at least four huge fans on the mats just to keep us some fresh air! The wrestling was definitely a tiring thing to do for a week three times a day but it was worth it. The camp gave me more expirience and I did learn a lot of new things. I wish we could do it all over again because it was such a great time! It is crazy how fast time passes and I will keep saying that.

That has been a permanent memory scarred on my dome piece. It was overall a great expirience and a very good wrestling camp. I hope kids can do it in the future because we all loved it!

Adventures!

Hi Gang,

This week's blog topic is to describe your craziest or best adventure.  One of my favorite adventure movies has always been  The Blues Brothers.   For this blog though, you're not going to be writing about the adventures of Jake and Elwood, but about your own.  Some of their adventures were foolish, some illegal, but mostly, they were just good, clean fun.  Those boys were, after all, on a mission from God.

At the request of the idea generator, this one will be a three paragraph essay.  It can be longer if you want to share a lot of the details with us.  The more detailed and interesting it is, of course, the better your grade will be.  Please have fun with this; adventures are just that.. adventures and they should always be fun.  Please keep in mind that if you're talking about things that violate school rules, athletic codes, local, state or federal laws, you should probably edit them out and don't implicate your friends either.  You can write about your adventures, just don't get yourselves in trouble.

This is due by 3 PM on Friday, May 3rd.  Please be careful with spelling, grammar and capitalization.  I am grading more carefully as we're ever closer to the end of your junior year.  When you respond to a peer, you have to BE SPECIFIC.  I have read so many, "...good job and good luck with ...." without ever having a clue about what you're referring to.  You have to use evidence from your peer's blog in your response.  See me if you have a question.  I will model a 100% response on the first blog that is written.  Good luck!

We're Nearing the End......

Hi Gang,

For this week's blog, I'd like you to consider your current grades, your goals for the future, and your plans for achieving those goals.  (That was really nice of me, I just gave you the three body paragraphs you'll need.. see how that works?)  This does mean that you need a well developed blog response of at least five paragraphs. (Be sure to use an introduction and a conclusion.)  Answer the following questions thoroughly by 3 PM on Friday 4/19 and be sure to sign your name at the end.

What are your goals for life following graduation?  Will your current grades help you reach those goals? What, other than grades will help you achieve these short- and long-term goals?  Think about this one and please write a well considered essay.
