Your Choice, Within Reason

Hey Gang,

For this week's blog, I'd like you to each think about the music you like best.  Think about the style of music, an artist you like, consider whether it's the beat of the music you like most or the lyrics.  When you've settled on a favorite song, I'd like you to find a YouTube video of that song and post the link to it in  your blog response.  Posting a link is easy; click on the blue "Link" button on the toolbar, paste your link in the box, and click "done".

Once you have posted the link to your song, you need to write a MEANINGFUL paragraph about why you like this type of music the most.  This is the last blog of the marking period; I tried to make it an easy one for each of you.  There are a couple of rules you MUST follow or you are GUARANTEED to receive a ZERO for your post.. here they are:
   1.  Do NOT post a link to a video that depicts any group in hateful manner; I don't want to see any videos of abuse or videos that present abusive, hateful messages.  If that is your musical style of choice, I would recommend for this blog that you find a nice Broadway show tune that you can substitute instead.
  2.  While I don't like or use a lot of "foul" language myself, I do understand that there are tons of songs out there that are loaded with language that is considered inappropriate for school.  I don't mind a little bit, but please keep in mind the words that you KNOW will make me crazy.  If you have questions about a particular song or lyric, see me before you post.  I will remove objectionable videos and your grade will upset you.
  3. For your paragraph, please NAME the SONG and the ARTIST, tell us why you chose that song, and discuss either the song or genre in terms of your personal preferences.  If you have a personal story that goes along with your song and you're willing to share it, please do.  That makes it more interesting to read and more meaningful as well.  Sometime early next week, I'll do this blog myself so you'll have an idea of what I'm looking for if you're confused.

This one is due by 3:00 on November 9th.  Good luck and come see me early if you have any problems or questions!

I do not really have a favorite song because I like a wide variety of music and all different songs for different reasons. The song that I decided to choose was Fiction by Avenged Sevenfold. I chose this song for many reasons but the main reason is that this was the last song that was written before the band's drummer died. Avenged Sevenfold’s drummer’s name was James Owen Sullivan also known as “The Rev”. This song was written on December 25, 2009 by the band’s drummer which was The Rev. The Rev had died three days later because of a drug overdose. This was the last song ever written by The Rev and at first it was titled death. After James died the band decided to change the name to fiction. This song was also the first Avenged Sevenfold song that did not have any guitar in it whatsoever. The band decided to put The Rev’s humming track in the song as a tribute to him. The Rev used to hum every song just to get the beat of it and this is the first and last song that The Rev actually sang in. Mainly the reason I chose this song was because of the fact that The Rev was undoubtedly the best drummer to ever walk this earth and he died of any early age (28) because I am guessing he could not handle the rock star life anymore.

    1. Hey Brandon,
I like this song, "Fiction". One of the reasons I do this assignment is because it helps introduce me to some of the music you guys are listening to and because I truly believe that music is a personal thing and I like using it as a way to get to know you all a little better too. You did a good job with this. You have a couple of minor problems with this one; song titles are supposed to be in parenthesis, a person is a "who" not a "which" (".. band's drummer which is The Rev". When you note that the song was first titled death, it should read, 'first titled "Death", otherwise it gets lost in your text and isn't recognizable as a song title. (same with fiction "Fiction") I know it looks like a lot of problems highlighted here, but they are minor and easy to fix. You wrote really well on this!

The song that I chose is “Some Nights” by Fun. I have chosen this song for several reasons. I think it has a great meaning to everyone. It talks about how he will never give up and will go to war if he has to. It fits the genre of music that I listen to. I listen to all kinds of music but this is just one appropriate genre that I like. I don’t really have any personal life experiences to relate to this song. I like this kind of music because it is calming and if you listen to the words it can mean a lot to you.

The song that I chose is "Even if it breaks your heart", by Eli young band. This song is very inspiring because it lets you know that even if life isn't looking up for you, it'll be alright. I like all kinds of music, but I really like this song because I think that if you listen to the words it can really help you out if you're having a hard time getting through something. It depends on the day though, some days I like to listen to more of new pop music but on days that things aren’t going my way, music like this usually helps me. If you listen to the words to not just this song but any song they usually can be very helpful or inspiring.

the song i chose is seventy times seven by brand new. brand new is my all time favorite band. they seem to have a song for every emotion known to man. this song starts with the lyric "back in school they never taught us what we needed to know like how to deal with despair or someone breaking you heart" the reason i enjoy this particular song by brand new is because it simply talk about the things that are wrong in life and friendships. the song was actually written for the lead singer of taking back sunday after an argument hence the lyric " ive seen more spine in jellyfish, ive seen more guts in eleven year old kids" overall this band and song are amazing!

The song I chose was "Good feeling" by FLo rida. The reason I chose this song is mainly because of the beat. The beat is mostly fast passed and puts me in a good mood. Another reason I chose this song is because I like all of Flo Rida's songs and he is one of my favorite artist. The song I have chosen was “The Only Way I Know” by Jason Aldean. I prefer to listen to country over any other music. It just seems to be what I like. I’m from Deposit what do you expect? I chose this song for many reasons. One reason I have chosen this song is because it pretty much describes SOME people from Deposit. It explains how some people realize they got to work for what they want and not to always rely on “mommy and daddy”. I hate people like that. Life doesn’t just get handed to you. You got to work for what you want, the sooner you realize that the easier you’re life will be.

I definitely agree with your blog 100%. I don't agree with parents that hand their children everything they want, without making them work for it. But I think that when people work for the things they want, they end up better off, because in the end, the people that don't work for their own things may not always have their mommy and daddy to give those thing to them, and they won't know how do anything for themselves. Just be grateful you were raised up the way you were, because you'll make out much better than any of the ones who were spoiled their whole lives. Keep up the good work.!

I wrote about this song ‘affirmative action’ by Johnny rebel. This song is what I believe in and if we listened we wouldn’t have a bad economy. It sucks when a white man wants to work but cant because of the affirmative action. 1. Wow Curtis,
I'm not quite sure how to grade this one. I understand (and agree) with the frustration expressed in this song. I disagree, the "n" word is offensive as it seems to relate in a negative way to a whole group of people. Affirmative action isn't just for African Americans; women, the disabled, and other ethnic groups are all given preferential treatment in some situations due to affirmative action. Like you, I disagree with affirmative action; there was a time in our history where it seemed reasonable to help people out due to incredible discrimination, but now, in my opinion, that period is over. People should get jobs or admission to colleges based on their abilities, not by their gender or ethnic identity. Having said all that, I get where you're going with your post and just wish you had signed it and been a bit more careful with your capitalization.

I don’t really have a favorite genre of music. I really enjoy listening to country music although. I grew up listening to classic rock such as anything from the 80’s or 90’s. I just started listening to country music in the past four years. The song I chose is “Somebody’s Heartbreak” by Hunter Hayes. I love listening to his music because he has a really nice voice and I love the lyrics to all of his songs. He is a super talented artist. He is only twenty years old and he played over thirty different instruments on his self-titled album “Hunter Hayes”. When I listen to country music it seems to help me relax and get rid of all my stress.

Hunter Hayes is one of the many young singers that are actually somewhat good. Although I don't really like him. The one thing I like about him is his first name, and I bet you couldn't guess why...

The song i chose was Holy Diver By Dio. I chose this song because i believe Ronny James Dio has the best voice of all time in heavy metal. I really love this song because it was written in the prime of music 1983. I really dont listen to any other genre of music or anything that was written before 1991, there are a few exceptions but not many. I really wish people started writing music like they did in the glory days, the days of long hair and great music.

The song that I have chosen for this blog is "Love Like Crazy" by Lee Brice. This song probably isn't my "favorite" song, but I do like it. It's a very inspirational country song. When I first listened to it, It gave me the feeling that no matter how hard something is, you can always get through it. It's about this young couple, that have had it rough in the begining, with everyone doubting their relationship, having six children, with only a little money coming in to pay the bills. They made it through all of that, and were still together as an older couple. Country music always makes me feel good, and i think it gives more meaning to life than any other types of music. This song makes me realize that if you never give up on what you want. The lyrics definitley have a great meaning to it, and I suggest this song to some who are going through a difficult time in life.

  33. The song I chose was The Hamburg Song by Keane. It is the song I am dancing to for my solo this year. This song is about friendship and how important it is. A friends is someone who would be there for you no matter what and is someone who is there to help you through life. The song says"Id like to bring a little light to shine a light on your life". A friends should want to make another friend happy. It is a happy song and has lots of meaning behind it which is why I chose this song to dance to this year.

  34. The song I chose was "Remember the Name" by Fort Minor. It's one of the many songs that I use when I start getting to lift weights. I listen to I a lot because it helps me work out. I would say that the genre would by rap. It is a song about having no limitations. It is a really good song in my opinion.

I listen to a wide variety of music. My favorite song always changes. For right now, my favorite song is Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye by Luke Bryan. It’s my favorite because it can be played a lot and not get boring. Luke Bryan is one of my favorite artists at the time. I like the beat and the lyrics of this song. I mostly listen to this song when I’m driving or doing homework.
