Hi Gang,
For this blog, you need to view the YouTube video by The Veer Union, "What Have We Done". There are a couple of variations, but I want you to watch the one at this link, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IScT3j_Afq8. If you are having a hard time with the lyrics, after you've viewed the first link, you may go to the lyrics version for that. The lyrics are pretty simple and repetitive though, so you should be okay with my link. Either way, please watch and listen to the video and then write a reaction essay about it using at least four paragraphs. Please follow the structure below for your essay:
Introduction (Paragraph 1) - What was the video you watched, who was it performed by, in general, how did it make you feel? Compare (no detail, just name) the video with one book, one local, national, or world event. { For example, "This video made me think of _______________by _____________. It reminded me too of _____________________ going on in Deposit (NY, the US, Costa Rica, etc.)"}
Paragraph 2 - Give details about why you compared the video to a book. Be sure to mention the author and underline the title of the book. I can easily compare this video to events in The Crucible by Arthur Miller. If you can too, write here how you can compare the two, be specific. If you choose another book, that's fine too, no worries.
Paragraph 3 - Explain your comparison of the video to a local, national, or world event. There are so many comparisons to make, I don't think I need to give you an example. Be descriptive and clearly relate the lyrics or images from the video to your event.
Paragraph 4 - Summarize your thoughts here. Can you put a positive spin on any of it, if so, please do. Perhaps there's a lesson to be learned from this video, what would it be? Why do you feel the way you did when you first viewed the video? Just do a nice summary and you're done.
GRADING - You will receive 30 points for connecting the video to a book that you have read using proper formatting and naming the author. You will receive 30 points for relating the video to an event in the local, national, or world news. You will receive 25 points for your summary. What did you get out of this video, feelings/thoughts/lessons, etc. Your last 15 points will come from the usual formatting.. paragraphs with a space between them, spelling, punctuation, grammar, etc. This, like all blogs, will count for two grades. This is a good opportunity to boost your grade.
Please see me if you have questions. Thanks..
Ms. Mott
O.k., First of all, way to go Matt T_T
ReplyDeleteReally? Four paragraphs? The video I watched was "What have we done?" By the veer. I'm not into sharing what I felt, sorry, that's personal. The song compares to the book because the video and song is about chaos and confusion. In the book, the main characters are going through chaos, and there’s a lot of confusion about the truth. Perhaps the main characters are asking them selves what they have done.
This song also reminds me of the war that the U.S.A is in at this point. Why are we there? Why haven’t we left? I bet if we did open our minds we’d be better off and more peaceful with everyone. I did enjoy this song though, very much. It can compare to any mistake that anyone made. I don’t want to hear that no one’s made a mistake, and never asked “What have I done?” No ones perfect, and that’s what the song is saying.
I watched the video “what have we done”. It didn’t really make me feel anything but a waste of my time. I would compare this with all books because I don’t like any of them unless it’s a magazine or a field and stream book. In the beginning of the video how ever it reminded me of the flood.
ReplyDeleteI could compare this to the book “The Crucible” because people are getting killed, and harassed for nothing. The people in the book how ever were in the 16th century. The video had all current events and was mostly over sea. America had nothing to do with starving African children.
Global warming could play a big part I thing with the video. The singer says what have we done and it is mostly are fault for that. Oil and other things being burned causing a whole in the atmosphere could definitely be are fault. But not the other things like the bums and kkk.
I honestly don’t know what more I can say but maybe we shouldn’t take the lands for granted. And a start to help other people out a little more?
"The singer says what have we done and it is mostly are fault for that. Oil and other things being burned causing a whole in the atmosphere could definitely be are fault." I think you mean our. :P

DeleteJohn I really appreciated how you voiced your opinion. I believe we do play a role in the destruction of our planet, but a lot of the things that happen are not all our fault, Especially things on the other side of the planet. We have caused a lot of problems on this planet but everyone's to blame and things probably will not change very fast a lot of people are saying how terrible it is and how we've destroyed the planet, but everyone drives and i guarantee everyone has littered. I just like how you spoke your mind keep on keeping on .

john H. let me start by saying that i died a little when i ready your post it was sort of funny haha. but at the end of the day how can you say that this song was a waste of time. one- it is an awesome band, two- it opens our eyes to the cruel world around us. granted you probably dont care but it makes a very, very good point. enough said.

The video I watched was a music video to the song “What have we done” by The Veer Union. It made me feel that the humans have destroyed the Earth and that many of us have no idea what we are doing to the world. This video made me think of The Crucible by Arthur Miller. It reminded me too of the houses and atmosphere of Costa Rica.
ReplyDeleteI can easily relate the video “What have we done” to the book The Crucible by Arthur Miller. In the book the girls that were caught dancing in the woods have no idea what they are doing. They don’t think about the effect of their actions on other people. That is a lot like how most people are today. A person will do something without thinking of its consequences. It can be from stealing to throwing garbage on the ground. People do thing daily that harm either the environment or other people even all over the globe.
The video made me remember when I was in Costa Rica. The houses down there were like old rusty shacks. I never realized how bad people had it down there. I thought that I had it bad. But now that I visited Costa Rica I realized how lucky I am to live in the United States. Many people don’t realize how good they have it. It’s not only the living conditions it’s the whole environment.
There is a very obvious lesson to be learned from this video. It is to think of others. If you think that you have it bad, think of other people in different countries. Also think of the environment. What have the humans done? We are slowly killing the earth. If you look around, there are signs of humans everywhere. The Earth has survived for billions of years. Then when humans come we are working on destroying it in the few thousand years of our existence. So, think before you act and think of others.

The video I just watched was a video by the Veer Union named “What have we done”. It made me realize a lot, such as how much of a mess the world has become over the years and how much we don’t appreciate what we have. The video reminded me of the book the Crucible, by Arthur Miller.
ReplyDeleteIt also reminded me of Costa Rica.
The video reminded me of The Crucible because they had life quite rough in that book, compared to how we have it here. Such as here witchcraft is not realistic here at all, but there you could get in big trouble for it, or how things worked. Such as if you told the truth you probably wouldn’t live, so you pretty much had to lie in order to live. That is pretty sad.
One comparison to this video is when I went to Costa Rica over the summer, in the video there were many places shown that reminded me a lot of Costa Rica. Costa Rica was a lot different from here. There is a huge change in food, roads, hotels, houses, schools, and much more. Roads were different from here because they were a lot narrower, not paved and let’s just say it was not smooth. Bridges rarely had guard rails, which was scary at times. The hotels usually were much smaller, internet wasn’t ever that great, there was never enough warm water to go around and you were not allowed to flush toilet paper, which became a problem. Houses had bars over the windows, were really close together and really small. As you can see everything was a lot different and it was a good experience but I would never want to live there.
The video changed my thoughts a lot, it made me want to go on mission trips when I get older to help out these children and even raise money to bring to families that need it. It made me realize that we all take everything for granted and we really should be thankful for what we have.

ReplyDeleteDestruction. The state of being destroyed, demolished, ruined, slain, or devastated. The video “What have we done” by The Veer Union is a perfect example of what has been done to our world. Humans have taken way to many advantages of what the earth has given to us. I feel as though not many care to know about it or try to fix what can be fixed. This video makes me think of The Crucible by Arthur Miller. In ways this reminds me of the war going on over seas.
ReplyDeleteThis video can be compared to The Crucible by Arthur Miller in varies ways. In the book a lie is started and escalates into something much more. This lie causes much confusion, chaos, and destruction of order in the town. Lives are lost for something that was never meant to be anything more than a few young girls getting out of a whipping. In today’s type of society that’s a common thing. People act and don’t have a thought on what the consequences might include.
Watching this video I was reminded of the war happening over seas. Occasionally I’ll see a new event happening with the war. It honestly sickens me to believe that countries all over world are blinded by what is happening to the world and environment because of the importance of getting resources. This video showed many pictures of starving people all over the world, destroyed biomes, destructive weapons, etc. I feel as if everyone was to really think about what needs to be done to try to preserve what is left that our world wouldn’t be being destroyed anymore.
I believe that this video was created to try to open our eyes about our actions and think more cautiously about what we do before we do it and also the effects that will be caused from our actions, good or bad.

DeleteThe video I watched was called “What Have We Done”. The song was performed by Veer Union. The video made me realize what I have and how many thing I take for granted in life. The book Black Boy by Richard Wright is a book about segregation and hate just like in the video. People are hurting the world every day with pollution, segregation, and hate. The video shows it all. I chose the book Black Boy because the book is about the KKK and segregation. The video shows a clip of the rebel flag and a clip of the KuKluxKlan burning a cross. The BP oil spill killed millions of fish in the ocean and covered half the ocean with oil. The shorelines are still covered in oil and so are the ducks seals and other animals in the area. The video sings about pollution and hurt animals that need help. The video made me feel lucky to have what I have. It makes you realize how much you take for granted like my house, my family, and my friends.

This video make me think of all the bad places in the world that have nothing and probably will never have any thing. Last summer I went to Costa Rica with some Deposit and Hancock kid in the main city San Jose it was pretty dirty. It was fun but their main cities are very dirty and a lot of homeless people.
ReplyDeleteThe Crucible was also very corrupt. They where saying people where doing witchcraft and started to blame each other. People in the play where started to get thrown in jail every day it was making the town worse and worse each day. This town was starting to fall a part they where all turning each other and it was going bad. This is like in Remember the Titans the town was separated the colored people on one side of the town and the whites where on the other side. This is like the play because the all where scared to be thrown in jail and no one wanted to die.
In today’s society there is a lot of population from oil spills, and burning garbage. This will eventually lead to having no Ozone layer and it will not protect us from the sun and the sun will lead us all to cancer. This is some thing you do not want to mess up on. Oil spills will affect us because it makes it so we loss sea creatures and people are not allowed to swim in those seas. The fish are dieing from all the oil and it will eventually start to spread over all the seas.
I think if the government does not step it up we will end up all dieing from some thing that we could have prevented. The sun will end up giving us cancer. The oil is killing all of the sea creatures. If we do not learn how to fix this we are all done for.
Dan Babcock

I agree with you, oil spills are bad and we should try to prevent them. And if the government doesn’t step it up we will all get cancer and die which would be very unfortunate. And by the way this post kind of blew my mind.

Dan I like the way you connected the video to the book The Crucible and how the people are getting thrown in to jail every day and it was making everything worse. That is how the world is now. You did a good job on this Dan.

ReplyDeleteIn the video “what have we done” by: Veer Union it made me never want to listen or watch that ever again. This video is like “The Crucible” by Arthur Miller. This reminds me of Libia where the people are getting in the crossfire of the new government are suffering.
This video is just like the book because both of them are showing how people have a simple mind. People don’t see what the big picture is they only see what is good for them. One example of the comparison in the book to the video is that when the proctors want more land for themselves they claim everyone to be witches so that they can buy the land. Another example of selfishness is when parris is standing over his daughter’s sick body only because his reputation is on the line.
This video is a good comparison to what is going on in libia. Everyone in libia that isn’t fighting with the new government is sleeping in the streets and eating out of garbage’s. The one image of the old guy sleeping on the cardboard bed is exactly what it is like over in libia right now today. Even people that are with the new government cant eat the way they should or the way they have been.
Everywhere around the world people have become selfish with they way they live their lives. The good news is that there are some people in the world that actually care and make a difference. And the rebel flag in there really pissed me off and the kkk didn’t do enough and why is marlin Manson in this video. They should figure out what it i9s before they show it in public.
I watched “What have we done” video. The video was by the Veer Union. This made me fell that we have demolished the earth and we don’t know how to fix it. The video kind of reminded me of the United States.
ReplyDeleteI can relate the video to the book The Crucible by Arthur Miller. It relates because in the book something was said which happen to be a lie which, turns it to something even more. This cause’s panic and killed the organization of the town. People where killed from this lie. They were killed form something so stupid just so a bunch of girls didn’t get in trouble. All this happens in present day life (not to that extent of course). People today all think of themselves and doesn’t care about anybody else.
The video “What have we done” by Veer Union, relates to the United States. It relates to the United States because people don’t care about anything then themselves. People in the U.S only care about there stupid happy meals, like they don’t care that there are people in other countries starving for food. Those people fight for just a crumb it really sad.
I think the United States has the potential to help other countries but we choose not to. The reason is because we are lazy, and I know there are some people out there that do care. The lesson we should learn here is that we can all be the help we need in the world but you had to choose to do it. When I first saw the video I was like oh my god, this is really happening. It was just a wake-up call.
~Katrina Lester
Katrina,
DeleteI completely agree with your opinion about the video. It is sad that the United States has the potential to help other countries but won't. I know that this vieo isn't a laughing matter but what you said about the happy meal made me laugh. Great job writing this blog! Keep up the good work!
~Raven Pietrowski
The video that I have just wasted the last 5:31 of my life due to watching it was called “What Have We Done” by the Veer. Although this video did make me think of change.
ReplyDeleteThis song relates to the book The Crucible in many ways. The video showed all the total chaos that has gone on throughout the world. For example the B.P oil spill. In the book all theses girls got together and started dancing. Well they did not realize they were committing witch craft. Well Paris was the one to catch them all committing this act. After that one girl in particular named Abby created complete Chaos throughout the town.
There is a very good lesson to be learned from this song. One lesson I learned was to never listen to it again. I guess you could also say we need change. All these little problems in our world are becoming much more than just a little problem. There becoming economic problems. That’s all I really have to say about this. I hate to say it but I am pretty sure this blog is less than 250 words. SO I think I should explain why I hate this song. One reason would be I only listen to one set of music. Another reason is it is a very depressing song. This blog was typed up by Scott Bowie, a student from the Deposit Central School district. I hope everyone has a very nice day after reading this.

DeleteThe video “What Have We Done” by the Veer Union, was an inspiring video. This video kind of makes me realize what is wrong with the world, and how it’s being destroyed day by day. This song describes the problems of the world, all of the pollution, famine, war, and hatred.
ReplyDeleteThis song may relate to The Crucible in a few ways. In the book, the characters have many problems going on. One example is John Proctor. He sent his wife to jail and he cheated on her. He later then killed himself. All throughout this book, people are being accused of practicing witch craft. This is all here say. That is one problem the book faces. Another problem the book faces is that Salem doesn’t really have an organized set of laws. This is because you can get accused of witch craft and get killed. They don’t prove your innocence.
The world also faces problems, and many of them. One major problem this earth is experiencing is pollution. You don’t even think about it, especially all the people that drive cars, work in factories, or even just throw a piece of trash on the ground. This all affects the world. I know it is simple, but these all affect us in a negative way. The song mentions, how long do we have before we erase the world? That is basically saying, how long we continue to destroy the world before we really destroy it for good.
We can fix the world! Solar energy companies have been trying to do what they can to get the earth back up and running green! All of us need to pitch in and benefit our home that we ALL live in. Make a change people!

ReplyDelete“What have we done” by The Veer Union had a very powerful message in it. This song made me feel like humans are destroying the world and soon enough we will all be dead. This song made me think of the book Little Brother by Cory Doctorow. It reminded me too of Obama and the dumb decisions he has made for the United States.
ReplyDeleteThe book Little Brother by Cory Doctorow is the first book that came to my mind when I heard this song. The reason for this is because the song is talking about how dumb decisions made by one person or a couple of people can affect all of mankind. In this book a couple of kids were minding their own business just playing a game and someone blew up the San Francisco Bay Bridge. Because of these people making a dumb decision to blow up the bridge the whole town was being swarmed with cops and S.W.A.T. teams. These kids then got captured as suspects that may have blown the bridge up. So, just because one person made a bad decision these kids got captured and the whole town went into lock down.
When I first heard this song the first thing that came to mind was the presidency of Barack Obama. What made me think of this was how all of the people try to elect someone they trust and sometimes these people aren’t trustworthy. All of the people elected Barack Obama and now the U.S. is in more debt than they started out with. In my opinion Obama is beside Jimmy Carter in being the worst president of the United States. This is a prime example of how people trusting officials that are not always trustworthy.
I did learn something very important from this video and that is what one person does today could affect millions of people tomorrow. I feel like if it weren’t for the things that some people have decided to do in politics the U.S. would not be in as much debt as what it is. I now have a much better understanding of the quote “It's the action, not the fruit of the action, that's important. You have to do the right thing. It may not be in your power, may not be in your time, that there'll be any fruit. But that doesn't mean you stop doing the right thing. You may never know what results come from your action. But if you do nothing, there will be no result. “It's the action, not the fruit of the action, that's important. You have to do the right thing. It may not be in your power, may not be in your time, that there'll be any fruit. But that doesn't mean you stop doing the right thing. You may never know what results come from your action. But if you do nothing, there will be no result.” By Muhatma Gandhi .

The video that I watched was called "What Have We Done" by The Veer Union. The video made me think of a lot of things that happen in the world. It just made me think a lot. It reminds me of Africa and kind of the United States.
ReplyDeleteThe video is a lot like the book “The Crucible” by Arthur Miller. In the book, one lie turned into this huge deal that didn’t have to start if people knew how to control their mouths. There was total chaos after someone said one lie. Many people were killed because of this lie.
In the United States, people can’t control their tongue and then murders, shootings, etc. happen. This is because people only care about themselves and no one else. In the video, it showed homeless people and people in very bad condition. It probably could have been prevented if people cared about others and helped others.
The lesson learned in this video is to not only care about you. You should care about others too. If we all work on this, we could probably fix a lot of things that are bad on the earth. It makes me sad watching the video thinking of the people and animals suffering in other countries. People are also just too lazy to anything about the problems in the world. The video should be a “wake-up call” to everyone.
~Rachel Grausgruber
Rachel, The way you interpreted this video was great! You took in the lyrics and translated them into your feelings about the music. I like the way this was written !
DeleteThis video really made me think of all of the horrible things that are happening all around the world. It also reminded me of the poor families in Costa Rica and Dominican Republic. Since I have been to both the Dominican Republic and Costa Rica I saw what it’s like to live with a struggle to survive, it’s not easy from the looks of it. I know that the one way these people can have decent lives is by us helping them out. A book that relates to this video is The Crucible by Arthur Miller.
ReplyDeleteThe Crucible relates to the video “What Have We Done” in ways such as people getting what they really don’t deserve. I say it a lot that you get what you deserve but I now realize that it doesn’t work that way. In The Crucible, innocent people were being killed because of a stupid lie, and in the video young children and adults’ loose lives just because they can’t supply even the slightest amount of food or water to keep themselves alive.
The video relates to everyday lives of people that live in such places as Costa Rica. These people have a hard time everyday figuring out what they’re going to do next. Many of the people risk their lives just for their children and it shouldn’t be that way. People like us should be able to take a stand and help out the people that are in need. In the video it was clearly shown in the images that people’s houses are nothing compared to what we have and it was obvious that those people would kill to have what we have today.
This video made me realize a lot. Most importantly it made me realize that not everyone has it easy and even though we may think we know everyone and their story, we really don’t. It’s not easy for anyone, each family or individual has their struggles in life, the people that can’t afford to get through the struggles like we can, find other ways. I strongly believe that many people that live under falling down houses deserve better care and help then they do get at the moment.

ReplyDeleteThe video that I watched was “What have we done” by The Veer Union. The video was kind of depressing a little but it had opened my eyes on what other countries have to deal with everyday. It reminded me of The Crucible by Arthur Miller. It reminded me too of some parts in the Bahamas.
ReplyDeleteThe Crucible reminded me of the video because girls are accused of dancing in the woods. When someone said it was witchcraft, then the whole town of Salem had begun to panic and freak. The town had gone downhill from after all of this happening. People started getting arrested and dying. Certain people had given their lives so that they can protect their families. I would compare this book to the video because things were just getting out of control. In the video, it shows how other countries can’t have a good society.
When I had visited the Bahamas, I was kind of shocked of what I was seeing. The streets were filled with people trying to sell you things they had made with their bare hands to try to make money for food. Yes there were stores for tourists, but not too far outside of the city there was nothing but little tiny houses. The people there were intimidating to me. Most the people I had seen were homeless and poor. Their clothes were very thin and ripped. The video is a good comparison because, the video shows people barely living and that is something that I had encountered with.
When I watched the video, it made me realize that the United States doesn’t have it all that bad. Sure we may be in debt, but at least we have houses, food, and clothing. People in third world countries suffer every day and there really isn’t anything they can do about it. They are dying because of diseases and lack f medical attention.

ReplyDeleteWhat have we done by the Veer Union. This video is depressing, to know what this world has come to. This video made me think of THE CRUCIBLE by Arthur Miller. It also reminded me of all the killings in mexico.
The book THE CRUCIBLE by Arthur Miller is similar to the video. In THE CRUCIBLE Reverend Paris finds the girls dancing in the woods, rumors spread no one believes the truth it all ends in tragity. In the video it seems like no one is listening to the cries of those who need help and therefore ending in tragity.
In mexico drug-lords are people killing innocent people to empower mexico, threatening to kill more innocents if they don't have total control of the country. In the video it shows innocent people who were killed in Iraq and those who were hurt from the war who had nothing to do with it. They were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
All i can really say about this is that seeing real life issues that we normally wouldn't think about are really happening. Just because its not happening to us doesn't mean its not out there. These events are tragic and real. We take our life for granted, when people out there are wishing for the life we already have...

The video that I watched was a music video and the song was “What have we done” by The Veer Union. This video made me feel that us the people are killing and destroying the earth. This video made me think of Arthur Miller who wrote The Crucible. It reminded me too of the famine going on in Africa.
ReplyDeleteI can easily compare the video “what have we done” to events in The Crucible by Arthur Miller very easily. They both have a common theme of destruction. The video shows the destruction of the earth and the Crucible tells about the destruction of a town. Another comparison is in the Crucible when the girls destroy the town by lying and lying to everyone. In the video the humans are destroying the earth with the littering and the oil.
This video made me think of what is happening overseas. People complain that they have it rough, when we have people fighting for our rights and freedom and they are the ones who have it rough. Once in awhile I will turn on the television and the news will be on. It will be telling the tragic stories that are happening overseas and the conditions people are living under. It really makes you think how lucky you are to be where you are and have the things you have.
There is a huge and great lesson to be learned from this video. It is to think of how bad others have it and how good you have it. Also think about how we are destroying the environment little things such as littering. We are little by little killing the earth, which relates back to the title of the song what have we done? So before you go complaining think about others who are less fortunate and think about what is happening to the earth.
~Matt Mills
I agree that this is a very good lesson learned.I also agree that in this world we leave in that people take advantage of what we have, and the things we use daily. Last but not least i do agree we are destroying our self little by little. -Marcus Shaver

ReplyDeleteThe video I watch was what have we done by the veer union. Made me feel really bored and don’t want to ever watch it again. “The Crucible” by Arthur Miller is a book that made me feel really bored and don’t ever wanna read it again. The video reminds me of a place over seas called Afghanistan.
ReplyDeleteThe song is kinda like The Crucible. The song it talks bout what have we done to the world and everything going on. In The Crucible people are accused of being a witch. Almost by the middle of the book people start wondering what have they done and why. One example form the novel is that Rebecca nurse asked what are the girls doing and why are they lying because she knew that none of these girls can be witches.
Mainly the song is talking bout third world countries. Afghanistan is a third world country that we are at war with. We have troops over seas right now fighting for what we believe. Afghanistan was and still is being greatly impacted by the after math of war. There are cities that are completely destroyed. There are people with out homes and starving because of war. I think they kinda deserve it though because they attacked us and killed many people so we are just doing it back but little worse.
There has been many struggles in life. In the novel The Crucible which it’s based on true events there was struggle was back in the 17th century. Today there are many struggles people face today and will face them for the rest of their life.
Jon Lee
Jon, I agree with your post. People today are fighting for what they believe just like in the book and

ReplyDeleteThe book I chose to compare this video too is the crucible. The way they accused so many people of practicing witchcraft, and then killed them was terrible. In the video a lot of the people struggling reminded me of the people in this book.
This video reminded me of the several floods we’ve had in deposit. All the garbage and debris in some places reminded me of that. It just reminded me of the situation are town was in.
This video really made me think about what were doing to the planet. It really seems like were going to completely destroy it. Were going to have to change things or our planet is not going to survive

I watched “What Have We Done” by Veer Union. While I was watching this video it got me thinking about how we treat others and how the world is turning out. When I think about a book that the song could compare to I think of any piece of work that Ellen Hopkins has wrote. As for what it compares to that has happened in Deposit or the U.S. is all the bullying that has happened. When I compare the song/video to world events I think of the on going war in Afghanistan or Lybia.
ReplyDeleteI compared “What Have We Done” by Veer Union to any work that Ellen Hopkins has done because when I read her work I start to think about how I treat other. Everything you do has an effect on someone. No matter what you do even if you have good intentions it still could have a negative effect on someone. In most of Ellen Hopkins work she shows how one event can change the way you are looked at forever.
I compare this song/video to world events such as the war going on in Afghanistan or Lybia. The song says “what have we done why do we watch the world that we have wasted how long till we all erase it what have we done can't you see? It’s time for picking up the pieces before the ground just falls beneath us open up our narrow minds” I feel like this describes everything that is going on over seas. If we stop fighting with each other than the world would be a better place. As for what this song describes about what’s going on in Deposit or the U.S. in my opinion is the bullying that happens everyday all over.
I think everyone has a lesson to be learned from watching this video. If everyone were to stop and think about what they were doing and how it effects others and not just them selves then life would go a lot smother. It really upsets me that we have let the world become the way it is and the way people treat each other. All I’m saying is that some people have a lot of thinking to do.

Hey, Raven I think you explain your thoughts very well. I think we had simliar thoughts in our blogs. Keep up the great work.

ReplyDeleteThe song “ what have we done” by the veer union is an amazing song about the turmoil that not only the united states deals with, but the turmoil and destruction in the world. In a way this song makes me think of 13 reasons why by jay asher. It reminds me of this book because clay starts to think what he may have don’t to receive the tapes. It also remind me of the drug problem in deposit. What have we done to get to this point?
ReplyDelete13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher reminds me of the song “ What Have We Done” by the veer union because clay-main character- begins to wonder what he did to get those tapes about Hannah’s death. What did he do to deserve this? Much like what did this planet do to us to deserve how we treat it, the world, much like Hannah, will eventually not be able to handle it anymore and snap.
The video to “what have we done” clearly shows events around the world that are huge issues now-a-days parts of the video shows issues form Africa, to Israel, to Ireland, the issues everywhere! Basically the song is asking how many things have to go wrong before we get the hint that we are destroying lives, home, and the planet
I highly agree with this song. My main thing about this song though is that it angers me that the world cant see what we are doing but the veer union does? C’mon people lets open our eyes to the world around us and try to change and better the world.

Kaitlynn,
DeleteThis song also reminded me of the book Thirteen Reasons Why. Lots of things in life arent right and its hard to see them until we have a reality check, like Clay civing the tapes or us all watching this video. Great job with this blog!

The video What Have we Done is a very emotional video about how people have completely destroyed this world and how people think we have come far but we have not done anything to this world at all. This video reminds me of the book The Hunger Games by Eric Eisenberg.
ReplyDeleteI compared The Hunger Games to the video because everything is so old then you go to this new advance place with all this technology and honestly they are destroying the world and how they are killing 2 people from 13 districts every year they really arent going anywhere in the world because we are just always starting wars and we are going though global warming and all these thing are happening right before our eyes and no one even knows it.
This video is about all these things that happen in the worl that we dont even relize its all the things that are happening and how we havent come that far in this world with all this hunger and all these people dieing for no reason.
-Shawn Merrill
Shawn, I think that you did a great job on this blog. You had some very good points in your response. I never watched The Hunger Games and you made a pretty good idea of what happened in your response.

ReplyDeleteThe video made me think of the The Crucible by Arthur Miller. This also made me think of the United States failing economy. Looking at this makes me think what we have really done to a once great place. This video can relate a lot to The Crucible by Arthur Miller in many different ways. With just the title of this video “What Have We Done” that title alone can be seen in Reverend Hale. Nearing the end of the book Hale started to look around and basically asked him self what have we done? He saw that everything was turning into a living nightmare, he saw that the town of Salem was falling apart and that children were being taken away from there family. With another part of the lyrics of “How long till we all erase it?” this I could see in Rebecca Nurse. She was the one that saw that the children were acting the whole and saw that they would be the ones to destroy the town. The only thing she could do is ask how long till this is over. This also can relate to the United States currently failing economic system. This used to be a once great nation where almost everyone was able to make a good living for their family for basic needs and have money left over for other luxury items. Somewhere along the way we messed up because now poverty is very wide spread throughout the U.S. We are now 16 trillion in national debt. The rich in this country pay less percent of taxes and get more tax cuts almost every year, they are at like maybe paying three percent of their total income in general while the middle and lower class pay maybe33% of their total income. What did we do to make this country start working in reverse? To add even more to that society it self is going backwards. We are living in a society where if a robber breaks into your house and gets hurt the robber can sue you and win. We also live in a society where almost no one looks out for each other, where you can’t even touch your kids to punish them without have child care or whatever crawling all over you. It used to be other parents would spank you if your parents weren’t around to do it themselves, where if someone tried assaulting you or breaking into your house you had the right to blow their brains out. All almost anyone can do anymore is ask what have we done? This video makes me think a lot about what happens around us. To me there is only one way to fix what is going on in this world. To me we will only be able to fix what is going on is if everyone who is seeing this all going backwards comes to together to correct this. If we don’t start correcting ourselves now we have about the future of Salem except on a larger scale to look forward to.

DeleteThe video was basically about starving children and how the world is full of terrible people, and that we are the cause of the worlds suffering. This video can be related to the crucible because in the story people are suffering in jail and die without honor and how Abby is the reason for the peoples suffering.
ReplyDeleteHonestly the video just makes me want to take a nap because it didn’t really affect me because it doesn’t involve me and I am not the reason for their suffering. The people in the video that were arrested by American soldiers, I just want to say the soldiers were just doing their jobs and they are not to be blamed.
I am Dan Koch and I approve this message.
I watched the video that played the song “What Have We Done” by Veer Union. It makes you realize what going on in the world around you and how you don’t notice it. I think this can relate to Arthur Miller’s book The Crucible. I don’t have a place where I can relate this too because I don’t think I have seen part of the world like that.
ReplyDeleteI think this can easily be relates to The Crucible. You don’t realize the chaos that’s going on around you until you are directly involved with it. Abigail called out names of innocent citizens of her community and accused them of witchcraft. She did this in hope of getting to be with John Proctor. She didn’t realize what a mess she had made in the attempts of doing so. I think that if she had realized all the people being hurt by it she would have stopped.
I don’t really have anything to compare this to in my life. I can see what’s going on in the world indirectly, but looked at it that was it just doesn’t seem real. Like I said previously you don’t actually know what it is or what its like unless it directly involves you. I think it’s sad that it’s like this, but I don’t see a way to change it. Eventually I would like to see places like this or help to make the situation shown in the video better.
I think it is important to know what going on in the world and to know people’s lives aren’t always good, it’s a reality check. Some people consider it a bad if they didn’t get something they wanted where as someone’s greatest day of their life is to get food or even just to continue living. So i think videos like this make people more grateful for what they have.

Tiffany,
DeleteI really liked your blog this week! I enjoyed reading it and being able to relate to all of the things you stated. For example; not being able to compare this to anything in your life. But it's very nice that you want to help later on in life. Wonderful job!

The video we watched was “what have we done” the video was performed by the veer union. The video over all made me think about how much we take for granite, and what a great country we have. If I was to compare this to a even going on in society today it would be Iraq, also for a book I would compare it to the crucibles. This reminded me of the crucibles by Arthur miller, it reminded me of Costa Rica as well. The reason I compare the crucibles to the video “what have we done” the crucibles by Arthur miller. Salem is chaos and the “what we have done” by veer union shows that the people in this world have basically self destructed ourselves. There is a lot of bad things that go on in Salem that can relate to the video we watched. For example the people in Salem began to accuse the villagers of witchcraft witch was false. The people would have to either admit or suffer the consequence witch would be death and disgrace to your family name. “Open up your narrow minds” is a simple line in the video “what we have done” that makes a lot of sense. People in this world keep moving in a straight line and never look around or stop to think about other countries and what they may be going through. The things we have in everyday life that we daily complain about is what they would kill for. Most people in America have the mentality of I have my own life and personal issues to worry about then to worry about what is happening in other countries. To be honest before I watched this video I had the same mind set as everybody else who really cares what’s going on over there I have my own problems. When I watched I felt kind of guilty am not sure why but I felt bad and sad also mad some many emotion to example in just one paragraph. I was sad because you never want to see somebody homeless starving and so young no being able to nothing about it. I was mad because how can a countries leader let his country be self destructed and not even care. Do not get me wrong am not going to go protest or any nascence but the video did change my perspective on life. -Marcus Shaver
ReplyDeleteMarcus you wrote a great blog. I can see the resemblance from the video to Costa Rica also. Another thing I agreed with was how it changed your perspective on life, it also changed my perspective. Great job Marcus!
